Home › First-pull notes › How to find the right small engine part number
Small engine parts are sold by number. Find the engine's model number first, then the part number — and when both are gone, measure.

The engine type (GX160, GX390, GCV160) is cast or stamped on the crankcase; the serial and type code sit on a sticker or stamp near the oil fill. Carburetor numbers like 16100-ZH8 are on a tag under the bowl nut or on the body.
Model, type and code are stamped on the shroud, valve cover or a metal plate — for example 130G32-0001-H1. Gaskets and cables carry their own numbers: 796851, 690971, 691024.
The product identification label is on the frame, deck or handle. It gives the machine model, which leads to the engine and the part diagrams. Cables often have the number on a plastic sleeve: 532440934, 946-0957, 119-2379.
Air filter, spark plug, fuel line and filter, carburetor, starter rope and control cables. Keep those on the shelf and most breakdowns become a 20-minute repair.
